Emerge's mission is to invest in people through social enterprise.  Established as an independent non-profit in 1995, Emerge grew out of an innovative temporary to permanent staffing enterprise (Emerge Staffing) to create jobs for hard to employ adults.  Since 1995, the agency has developed a growing portfolio of workforce, housing, social enterprise and community development programs and activities.  Headquartered in North Minneapolis, EMERGE has evolved into a unique non-profit, tackling a host of life challenges through a "triple play" approach that includes human services support, social enterprises and community development projects.  Emerge develops human capital by connecting disadvantaged individuals with economic opportunities.  The primary objective of the organization's work is to create social momentum in economically disadvantaged communities (with a focus on North Minneapolis).  Key goals for Emerge include eliminating homelessness, promotion self-sufficiency, and creating economic activity and wealth.

 

Emerge does it's work through four operating units in the organization:

Workforce:  job training and placement

Villages:  supportive housing, building community, quality of life

Ventures:  earned-income strategies focused on job creation

Community Development:  partnerships to deliver mission-driven community assets and special projects

 

Emerge can support NEON participants with services in any of those four operating units.  Primary contributions to NEON are made through the personal financial assistance through its Finacial Opportunity Center and additional workforce training and education programs.  NEON participants can enroll in classes or seek one-on-one consultation through Emerge staff.

 

Emerge was a founding partner of NEON and Executive Director Mike Wynne serves on NEON's Board of Directors.
